About Our In-Home Care Services

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right care options for your loved one is a significant decision. Maggie’s Health Care Providers is here to help you make an informed choice about the services that best suit your family member’s needs. Find detailed information about how our care works, what you can expect, and how we ensure the best experience for your loved one.

Most seniors prefer in-home care for several reasons, including:

  • Emotional value of remaining in familiar surroundings: Staying in their own home provides care recipients comfort and helps maintain their emotional well-being.
  • One-on-one attention: In-home caregivers focus solely on your loved one, unlike institutional settings where staff must attend to multiple people at once. This means:
    • More personalized care to meet individual needs
    • Better prevention of falls, wandering, and kitchen accidents
    • Immediate emergency response, such as calling 911 without delay
  • Prolonged independence: Just because a senior needs help with daily activities doesn’t mean they have to move to an institution. In-home care helps maintain independence in a supportive environment.
  • Safety: In institutional settings, seniors are at higher risk of contracting illnesses like pneumonia, gastroenteritis, and antibiotic-resistant infections due to close quarters and cross-contamination. One-on-one care at home significantly reduces these risks.
  • Enhanced quality of life: In-home care allows seniors to maintain their usual lifestyle, stay connected with their community, and continue visiting familiar places such as local stores, restaurants, and parks.

By choosing in-home care, your loved one can enjoy a safer, more comfortable, and personalized caregiving experience while maintaining their independence and lifestyle.

The easiest way to determine if in-home care is the right option for your loved one is to have a phone conversation with us. We’re happy to discuss your needs and help you find the right care. Call us at 224-436-9242.

No, we do not charge for the initial consultation. After a phone conversation to determine if our services may fit your needs, we’ll schedule a free, no-obligation in-home consultation with our Executive Director and case manager. This meeting typically lasts 30–60 minutes and allows us to fully understand your requirements, leading to the development of a personalized Plan of Care.

We work together to create a comprehensive Plan of Care that outlines your preferences. This plan is shared with all Maggie’s Health Care Providers team members, including the Executive Director, case manager, and caregiver. It’s kept in a Client Care Folder, which stays in your home and is reviewed by caregivers regularly.

We also provide weekly Care Notes, which document activities and care provided. These notes can also be used for Long-Term Care Insurance claims if necessary, ensuring consistent care aligned with your needs.

Unfortunately, non-medical in-home care is not covered by health insurance, Medicare, or Medi-Cal. However, some Long-Term Care Insurance policies may cover these services. We recommend checking your policy or contacting your insurance agent. We can also provide the necessary documentation to help with your reimbursement process.

Hiring, screening, and managing caregivers can be time-consuming and costly. By using Maggie’s Health Care Providers, you gain legal and financial protection and avoid the complexity of managing employment taxes, workers’ compensation, and other liabilities. We ensure all caregivers are properly vetted, trained, and matched to meet your loved one’s specific needs.

No, a physician’s authorization or prescription is not required. However, if you have Long-Term Care Insurance, we recommend confirming your coverage with your provider to ensure services are reimbursable.

For your safety and to comply with the law, our caregivers cannot administer medical services. They can remind you to take medications, but they cannot physically administer medications or injections.

In the event of illness or emergency, we will provide a comparable temporary replacement caregiver. Our priority is restoring your primary caregiver’s services once they are well enough to return.

Your satisfaction is our priority. If you are not happy with your caregiver, we will work to find a better fit. If necessary, we can also refer you to other organizations.

Respite care provides temporary relief for primary caregivers. It allows family caregivers to rest, recharge, and avoid burnout, knowing their loved one is being cared for by a qualified professional. Contact Maggie’s today to learn more about our short-term and respite in-home care services.
